Breakfast in the Posters recognizes best efforts

Join Program Committee for breakfast, awards presentations

Start your day Friday by joining the 2007 Program Committee for Breakfast in the Posters at 7 a.m. in the Sails Pavilion at the San Diego Convention Center. Not only will you have the opportunity to network with your colleagues and enjoy a delicious free breakfast, but you’ll also be able to study the best peer-reviewed posters in each of the 11 exhibit categories. Posters by allied health organizations and the Orthopaedic Research Society also will be on display.

Posters selected for inclusion in the exhibit have been through a rigorous peer-review process similar to the review process for podium presentations. Abstracts were submitted to and reviewed by the Annual Meeting Program Committee, which will also conduct the final judging. This year’s meeting includes more than 560 posters.

Posters are selected based on several criteria, including topic, scientific merit and validity of conclusions. Decisions often are based on how well the posters meet two important measures: 1) Will it change the practice of orthopaedics? 2) Will it improve quality of care? Posters that provide orthopaedic surgeons with ideas for improving their own practices are highly valued and may win one of the awards presented at the breakfast.

The best poster in each of the 11 exhibit categories (adult reconstruction hip and knee, foot/ankle, hand/wrist, pediatrics, practice management/nonclinical, rehabilitation, shoulder/elbow, spine, sports medicine/arthroscopy, trauma and tumors/metabolic bone diseases) will be recognized with a yellow ribbon; the best poster overall will win a blue ribbon. Winners will be announced in Friday’s edition of AAOS Now.

Even if your schedule won’t allow you to attend the breakfast, be sure to find time to visit the Sails Pavilion and walk through the poster exhibits. Posters will be open for viewing today through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
