Academy seeks Education Research Fair volunteers
The Academy is seeking fellows to volunteer to gather research data and staff educational booths for its Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Initiative at the 1999 World Summer Games June 26-July 4 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, the Academy will hold a free "Education and Research Fair" for Special Olympics athletes, their families and coaches at "Olympic Town West" on the University of North Carolina campus, Chapel Hill, N.C. Some volunteers will gather research data on foot and ankle conditions of people with mental retardation; other volunteers will staff interactive educational booths featuring information on injury prevention, sports medicine, the knee, spine, foot and ankle.
Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts® comic strip, designed the logo for the Academy's Healthy Athletes Initiative. It features the dog Snoopy saying "To move is to live-to live is to move." Athletes who complete the Academy's Happy Feet research project will receive a free T-shirt with Snoopy and the Academy's "Healthy Athletes Initiative" logo on it.
