Summer Institute in 25th year at Seattle meeting

For the past 25 years, orthopaedic surgeons looking for a unique educational experience have found that the Summer Institute fits the bill-year in and year out. "The Summer Institute offers a strong mixture of didactic lectures, a comprehensive overview of specialty areas, and hands-on surgical skills," says James H. Beaty, MD, chair of Summer Institute 1999. "It's a pretty intense program."

The 25th Anniversary program will be held in Seattle, Wash., September 22-26, 1999. Several new CME courses have been added, including a new hands-on knee course; a unique elbow course; a beyond-the-basics computer course; and a one-day evaluation, management and surgical coding class. A Summer Institute favorite-the foot and ankle course-is also back on the program.

"The Summer Institute gives the practicing orthopaedist a chance to gain expertise in surgical skills and to review the current state of each of those specialties," says Dr. Beaty. "We've assembled an excellent faculty this year and plan to offer some superb courses."

The program includes treatment of common surgical problems of the foot and ankle; management of complex fracture; personal computer skill building; current treatment and techniques for athletic injuries to the knee; and a comprehensive review of techniques in shoulder surgery. Other topics include the top 10 orthopaedic procedures; reconstructive surgery of the elbow; open and arthroscopic treatment and techniques; complex primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty; and evaluation, management and surgical coding.

Robert D. D'Ambrosia, MD, Academy president, will give the keynote address, "AAOS Update 2000."

Most of the courses are limited to 100 participants; however, the computer course is limited to 60 registrants and the elbow course is restricted to 50. If room is still available, registration may take place up until the day of the course. However, no refunds will be issued after August 25,1999. Also, the block of rooms reserved at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel is guaranteed through August 25 only. For more information or to register, contact the Academy customer service (800) 626-6726.
