Gordon named ‘PR Professional of the Year’

PR News awarded Sandra R. Gordon, AAOS director of public education and media relations, the PR Professional of the Year in the ‘Nonprofit/Associations’ category. Gordon was recognized for her outstanding planning, direction and execution of the Academy’s various public relations initiatives, most notably the Legacy of Heroes program, which illustrates the great strides made in the treatment of traumatic injuries during World War II, and chronicles the wartime experiences of several orthopaedic surgeon veterans. The project includes two traveling exhibitions, a book, video documentary and Web site.

The Association of Women in Communications also recently recognized Legacy of Heroes with a Clarion Award, as best Special Purpose Event.

“Ms. Gordon is goal-oriented, focused and dedicated to the Academy’s mission in everything she does,” said Stuart Hirsch, MD, chair of the Council on Communication. “Her enthusiasm is contagious, and her campaigns inspire orthopaedists and patients around the world.”
