Visit Placement Center at 2007 Annual Meeting to connect
Ask orthopaedic surgeons and in-house recruiters to describe the AAOS Placement Center and you hear phrases such as “highly effective” and “one of the best run placement centers out there.”
If you’re looking for new practice opportunities or to expand your group practice, take advantage of the Placement Center’s services during the 2007 Annual Meeting in San Diego. Located in the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Convention Center, the Placement Center will be open Wednesday through Saturday, February 14-17, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, February 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Placement Center distributes listings of Positions Wanted and Practice Opportunities each day of the Annual Meeting. To be included in these publications, all participants must have an active listing, must register for both the Placement Service and the Annual Meeting and must attend the meeting. Per Academy policy, professional recruiters are not allowed to participate in this service. All current participants must check in at the Placement Center before 3 p.m. for their listing to appear in the next day’s listings. While at the Placement Center, those seeking employment can check out the bulletin boards for information that hiring organizations will post about their hospitals or practices.
Candidates can contact employers to set up on-site interviews using message kiosks available throughout the San Diego Convention Center. Six interview booths will be available at the Placement Center for employers to reserve.
If you currently have a listing in the AAOS quarterly publication of Practice Opportunities or if you are a candidate seeking employment, you may use the Placement Center’s services free of charge. Non-members and members who post a new job opportunity listing on-site must pay $475. The cost allows your ad to run on the Placement Center Web site, for one full year.
Academy member Monica Alberts, MD, who has used the Placement Center in the past, found it to be an effective way to meet prospective partners.
“At a large convention such as the Annual Meeting, the Placement Center was an easily identifiable location where practices and candidates could meet,” says Alberts. “The meeting rooms were well-partitioned and allowed interviews to take place away from the bustle of the convention. The registration form was simple and led to abundant responses.”
David Nyman, in-house physician recruitment coordinator for Prevea Health/St. Vincent Hospital, has also had positive experiences using the Placement Center’s services. Nyman—who has used the Placement Center twice in the past and plans to use it at this year’s Annual Meeting—says the Academy’s Placement Center “is one of the best run placement centers out there. It makes it easy to connect with those who are looking [for employment] and get information in their hands about your position. Unlike other meetings where you have to buy booth space, this is a low-cost, highly effective way to recruit,” says Nyman.
