Practice Management Center expands

The AAOS Practice Management Center continues to expand and incorporate new information. The Information and Resources segment now contains more than 100 articles on topics such as governance, personnel, finances, patient relations, technology and medical records. The Dispatch section summarizes news items related to practice management of interest to practicing orthopaedists. New items are added twice each week.

The CPT/ICD-9 Coding segment of the Center contains questions and answers submitted by orthopaedists that deal with challenges they’ve experienced in coding for surgical services. The Compliance section provides up-to-date and useful information about HIPAA including the Privacy Rule. Most orthopaedic practices will need to comply with the Privacy regulations by April 14, 2003.

The Advice Center is a list of questions related to orthopaedic practice management that have been posed by orthopaedic surgeons together with answers provided by an expert panel of BONES members. The Transitions segment contains articles and information specifically geared toward those physicians who are making changes in their professional lives: from training to practice, from one practice to another and from practice to retirement.

Finally, the Academic Focus consists of articles written by members of the Academic Business and Practice Management Committee, including Philanthropy and Academic Practice Efficiency.

AAOS members are encouraged to visit the Practice Management Center Web Site. You can rate the site and offer suggestions for future topics. Any further questions or information, contact Steven E. Fisher, MBA, editor, Practice Management Center, at sfisher@aaos.org or (847) 384-4331.
