Professional Compliance Program takes to the road

By Kathleen Delaney

The establishment of the AAOS Professional Compliance Program has prompted many fellows and members to raise questions about how this initiative serves them. Questions often relate to the Standards of Professionalism (SOPs), which set minimum levels of acceptable conduct for all fellows and members in the areas of Providing Musculoskeletal Services to Patients, Professional Relationships, and Orthopaedic Expert Witness Testimony. Alleged violations of the SOPs may serve as the basis for a formal grievance to AAOS. Additional questions center on how these formal grievances are handled.

To help answer these questions, the AAOS Professional Compliance Program has developed a PowerPoint presentation for use at state and regional orthopaedic society meetings. Members of the Committee on Professionalism and the Judiciary Committee may be available to make the presentation and answer specific questions.

In addition, a traveling exhibit is available to help enhance awareness of the Professional Compliance Program.

Direct any inquiries about the Professional Compliance Program PowerPoint presentation or traveling exhibit to the Professional Compliance Program Coordinator at (847) 384-4047 or e-mail professionalcompliance@aaos.org
