NIAMS offers hip report

Last year, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease and the Office of Medical Applications of Research of the National Institutes of Health held a Consensus Development Conference on Total Hip Replacement.

The conference developed a report which included indications for total hip replacement, design and surgical considerations, responses of the biological environment, expected outcomes, accepted approaches and outcomes for revision of total hip replacement, and directions for future research.

Free, single copies of a consensus development statement on total hip replacement may be obtained by writing to William H. Hall, Director of Communications, Office of Medical Applications of Research, National Institutes of Health, Federal Building, Room 618, 7550 Wisconsin Ave., MSC 9120, Bethesda, Md. 20892-9120.
