The Academy is moving ahead on plans to expand the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC) in vacated tenant office space in the Academy building. The Academy will build a 100- to 110-seat multipurpose room and a state-of-the-art multimedia room in the space. Four additional work stations will be added in OLC.
The new multipurpose room will serve as a lecture room, while the multimedia room will contain up to 12 computer stations for course participants to view Academy CD-ROM programs as well as access the Internet.
The new facilities will cost up to $500,000. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Since its opening in January 1994, the Academy has offered 23 surgical skills courses and four computer boot camp courses at the Orthopaedic Learning Center. The Arthroscopy Association of North America has held 42 surgical skills courses at the center.
