Expert Witness Program launches new Web site

By Kathleen Delaney

AAOS members and the public may now access information on the newly launched Expert Witness Program by visiting the Expert Witness Program portion of the AAOS website. The new site includes members-only information as well as links for the public, patients and media.

The public site provides links to Bulletin articles, the AAOS Code of Medical Ethics and Professionalism, the AAOS Advisory Statement on Orthopaedic Medical Testimony, and the AAOS Expert Witness Affirmation Statement.

The members-only section explains the program in more depth and includes links to various aspects of the service. In addition to an explanation of how to sign and use the Expert Witness Affirmation Statement, the site provides information on the AAOS Expert Witness Document Clearinghouse and protocols for submitting documents. The site also hosts statistics from the 2002 AAOS member census that relate to professional liability and expert witness issues.

Selected links to other sources, such as the Coalition and Center for Ethical Medical Testimony, and a feedback link also are included.

AAOS members are encouraged to explore the site and read about the Expert Witness Program in detail. As the program develops and new features are introduced, the Web site will be updated with pertinent information.
