Academy, CPSC urge seniors to be active
The Academy and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) have jointly announced a new program, "Keep Active and Safe at Any Age," to encourage seniors to participate in sports and exercise activities.
At a press conference in April, CPSC disclosed the results of a study of injuries treated at hospital emergency rooms from 1990 to 1996, showing a 54 percent increase in sports related injuries to older people.
Nicholas DiNuble, MD, who represented the Academy, discussed the benefits of exercise and encouraged people to follow safety precautions.
The "Keep Active and Safe at Any Age" brochure is available by contacting the Academy's consumer service department at (800) 626-6726.
