AAOS honored for playground program

The AAOS’s safe, accessible playground building program was honored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with the Summit Award, the ASAE’s highest level of recognition.

Hundreds of AAOS members and industry representatives built a playground for students at the Magnolia School in Orlando, Fla., the day before the opening of the AAOS Annual Meeting in March 2000. The 3,428 square-foot playground was designed to meet the special needs of the students who have physical and/or mental disabilities. The AAOS is planning to build another playground in conjunction with the Annual Meeting in San Francisco in February 2001.

Only eight winners were selected for this honor from hundreds of programs submitted this year to the Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards. Earlier this year, AAOS was informed that it was one of 15 organizations to receive an Award of Excellence in the 2000 AAA Awards. These 15 excellence awards were chosen from more than 130 entries submitted by associations and industry suppliers nationwide.

Now in its 10th year, the AAA Awards recognize associations that provide innovative programs.
