AAOS members offered free subscription to Bulletin on the Rheumatic Diseases

The Arthritis Foundation is offering free to AAOS members a free subscription to the Bulletin on the Rheumatic Diseases (BRD), its electronic newsletter for health professionals. The subscription also provides access to the BRD archive, which houses back issues of the Bulletin.

The Bulletin provides physicians with the latest information about research and trends in evidence-based management of rheumatic diseases. It is published 12 times a year, and each issue contains a peer-reviewed article in a concise and practical format designed for the busy physician. The publication is distributed via e-mail.

To subscribe or to preview the publication, go to the Arthritis Foundation Web site at http://www.arthritis.org and go to the Research section to find the link to the Bulletin on the Rheumatic Diseases.

ACS offers new professional liability insurance program

The Doctors Company announced October 1 that it is now exclusively sponsored by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to provide professional liability insurance for Fellows of the College. "The College is very concerned about the current situation with regard to professional liability insurance, especially lack of or limited access to coverage for some of our members," said Thomas R. Russell, MD, FACS, executive director of the American College of Surgeons. "Because of these concerns, the College has established a business relationship with The Doctors Company and is sponsoring a professional liability insurance program for our members." The physician-owned professional liability insurer provides medical malpractice protection for more than 26,000 physicians.

Member e-mail addresses sought

The Academy currently holds e-mail addresses for just 49 percent of its members and would like to increase that percentage. Growing efforts to reach members with timely announcements about product recalls, patient safety concerns and other urgent news hinge on reaching orthopaedic surgeons quickly and inexpensively. The most efficient way to accomplish these goals is through use of e-mail. If you haven’t already done so, please provide AAOS with your e-mail address. This information will not be shared with outside organizations.
