CDC seeks feedback on infections

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a cluster of deep surgical site infections in patients who have undergone total knee replacement, caused by a single strain of Enterococcus galinarum or E. faecium (confirmatory species identification is still pending).

The CDC is interested in receiving reports of recent infections or clusters of infections in total joint recipients caused by these two enterococcus species. AAOS members who have seen recent infections or clusters of infections in total joint recipients caused by these enterococcus species are asked to submit their contact information to the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion mailbox at hip@cdc.gov
