The Academy encourages fellows who are members of the American Medical Association to vote in the current AMA election to determine the number of representatives each specialty society will get in the AMA House of Delegates. The AMA has mailed ballots to all members, but another ballot will appear in the October 13 issue of American Medical News. Fellows are encouraged to vote for one of the following musculoskeletal specialty societies that are represented in the House of Delegates. They are the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the North American Spine Society. Each specialty society in the House of Delegates gets one voting delegate. For every 2,000 AMA members who select a particular society in the balloting process, an additional voting delegate is apportioned.
