Academy develops Essentials book for primary care

The Academy has published a comprehensive guide for primary care physicians on the diagnosis, treatment and referral, when appropriate, for the 300 most common musculoskeletal conditions in the office setting. The American Academy of Pediatrics served as principal reviewer for the pediatric section.

"Essentials of Musculoskeletal Care is the definitive resource for the musculoskeletal health care team," said Robert K. Snider, MD, editor. "The Academy developed the 686-page book for family physicians, general practitioners, primary care physicians, pediatricians, physical therapists, orthopaedic physician assistants, chiropractors, podiatrists and other providers of patient care. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the book as a definitive resource for its members."

Essentials of Musculoskeletal Care is divided into nine sections: General orthopaedics, shoulder, elbow and forearm, hand and wrist, spine, hip and thigh, knee and lower leg, foot and ankle and pediatrics orthopaedics.

"The book features 900 illustrations, step-by-step examinations of each anatomic area and a complete description of each condition," Dr. Snider said. "Differential diagnoses, treatment options and possible complications are also covered."
