How to access Federal Register

The Food and Drug Administration and other government agencies publish proposed rules and final rules and regulations in the Federal Register.

You can read and download the information in the Federal Register by using the URL www.gpo.gov-the site of the Government Printing Office. Click on the line "Access to Government Information Products." Open "National Archives and Records Administration's Office of the Federal Register." Scroll down to "Federal Register Online via GPO Access." Click the line for the database for the years 1995 through 1998. Indicate the year you want to search and whether you're looking for Final Rules and Regulations, Proposed Rules, etc. Insert the issue date range and search terms.

To access the final rule for reclassification of the pedicle screw spinal system, the day was 07/27/98 (July 27, 1998). The search term could be "pedicle screw." Submit and you'll find the document" Orthopedic Devices: Classification and Reclassification of Pedicle Screw Spinal Systems." This document is also in the Federal Policy section of the Academy's home page www.aaos.org.
